Parcel’s Three-Year Anniversary and Beecher’s 3

Dear friends, if you are in the Kansas/Missouri area, be sure to attend the three-year Imageanniversary celebration for the beautiful magazine that gave me my very first publication, Parcel. Contributors will be reading, and there are some fantastic raffle prizes. Here is the link to the Facebook event.

Also, the University of Kansas graduate student literary magazine, Beecher’s, for which I was a fiction reader this last year, has just launched its third issue, which you can purchase here. It’s a gorgeous book, as is Beecher’s M.O., and there are some fantastic pieces inside.

Upcoming Reading

Hey there, friends.  If you’re in the Kansas/Missouri area this Sunday, May 5th, at 6 p.m. please attend this upcoming University of Kansas Graduate Reading Series event at the famous The Raven bookstore in Lawrence, Kansas. Bonuses of this venue: two adorable cats, incredible management/owners, and a to-die-for collection of vintage BBC mystery posters.

I will be reading my work, along with a few other KU graduating writers. Here is the link to the Facebook event page, and I hope to see you there!

For those heading off to AWP…

I will not be joining you this year, but it would be lovely if you could visit the tables of the fine journals and magazines that will have issues containing my work, available for purchase:

The Cincinnati Review, Issue 9.2, containing my story “Good Faith”

& Parcel, Issue 2, containing my poem “Badlands”

Enjoy the conference! Get lots of embarrassing material for future confessional nonfiction essays.

“The Bones in Mammal Hall” now appearing in Confrontation

I am very excited to say that my creative nonfiction piece “The Bones in Mammal Hall” is now out in Confrontation 112, Fall 2012.  You can purchase a copy here!

I mean, look at this guy.

The piece is about the University of Iowa’s natural history museum, which is pretty surreal (to say the least) and was one of my favorite places on campus when I went to school there. You can see one of the fine specimens to your right.

“Good Faith” now out in The Cincinnati Review & Friends in Parcel

Received my copy of The Cincinnati Review issue 9.2 (Winter 2013) in the mail yesterday!  Please check out my story “Good Faith,” which appears in this issue; click here to purchase a copy for only $9.

Also, two friends and colleagues of mine at the University of Kansas have work appearing in the Fall 2012 issue of Parcel: Benjamin D. Cartwright and Phillip Garland.  Their office is across the hall from mine! Parcel is a great magazine which gave me my very first publication.  Please check out the Fall 2012 issue here.

A Review of “Shapeway” that Wants to Make Me Cry

Joe Sullivan has reviewed Monkeybicycle 9 on his blog, and he has this to say about my story “Shapeway”:

“I have not read a story I’ve loved as much as I love Colleen Morrissey’s ‘Shapeway’ from Monkeybicycle 9. I’ve read it several times. I’ve taken it to bed with me. I’ve smiled at it again and again and again. It’s so perfect, I can hardly talk about it… If you read nothing else in this issue, read this. If you need one reason to buy this issue, this is it: ‘Shapeway.'”

Thank you, Joe.  I appreciate it very deeply.

Please read the rest of the review at his blog.
